About Leah Anderson Magaña

Leah Magaña writes through her educator lens. She has worked in education for nearly 20 years teaching in private and public schools in grades 2-6 across the United States. Her favorite grade and subject is 5th grade math. Leah is currently the PK-12 Director of Learning at Le Jardin Academy in Kailua, Hawaii.

Leah started writing the first of The Mathews Mysteries while teaching 5th grade in Hawaii’s public schools, out of necessity to inspire her students to apply their math skills in a fun and authentic way. Writing the Outlier’s Secret took her on an adventure she never expected, exploring, engaging with, and writing math fiction and interdisciplinary learning for her Master’s degree in Curriculum Studies at University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Leah currently lives in Kailua, Hawaii with her husband, 5-year-old twins, and chocolate Labrador, Dodger. When not at work or with family, she enjoys playing the piano, racing sailboats and kite surfing.
